Its a generic chinese scooter with a gy6. What can I do to keep up with traffic on the highway? It just barely goes 60mph at WOT. I would like to go at least 70mph.
Presuming you want a lift in performance without increasing fuel consumption much or costing a lot, then a 250 – 500 cc 4 stroke twin cylinder from Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki or Yamaha would be a starting point. Some are cruisers in the Harley style and others are convention commuter bikes. A Honda CBF250 would fit the bill or if you want a bit more power for longer trips, CBF500. Kawasaki ER5 and KLR500 both may suit. I don’t know the models for your location but either 250 – 500 4 stroke twin cylinder machines from any of the popular makers will have enough performance but not so much that should get you in to trouble.
ok i’m guessing you dont wanna shell out for a new bike, so lets work with what you have. it’s a gy6 so there are lots of parts around, just have a look at ebay, as most of it is avalable on there.
you have a chinese bike, they always put in the cheapest parts so get that spark plug outa there and buy a iridium one.
you’ll be needing a new airfilter, something freeflow, very easy to install yourself.
then new silencer, something sporty
after you add these 3 you will find your bike is running lean, so a new main jet is in order (for this you might wanna take it to the shop, it’s better to get a pro in, but not to hard to do yourself if you wanna learn more about your bike.)
next step is a new set of rollers, something lighter.
and last but not least then a new race cdi.
all this should bring you up about an extra 15-20mph
