You know the saying, Everything old becomes new again . You bet, this is true for mopeds too. A lot of companies are coming out with new scooters that look like the old ones. I think it’s awesome. I kind of like the way older vehicles look. Scooters like the Honda Metropolitan and the Vespa GVS 250 look like classic scooters from days gone by.

When Henry Ford was producing Model T’s in Detroit, scooters were all the rage in Europe. These scooters looked a lot like what we think of as a moped today. They have definitely changed over the years, but people still long for the way they used to look. It seems like it happens in every market. Take a look a 4 great scooter brands:

Cushman –The Cushman Company produced motor scooters from 1936 to 1965 and they were most widely used during WWII. If you’ve ever seen some of those old WWII documentaries or films, these are most likely what the GI’s are cruising around on.

Mitsubishi — One of the first scooters made in Japan was the Mitsubishi Silver Pigeon. It was a scooter largely made of warplane wheels and discarded warplane parts, believe it or not.

Vespa — After WWII, Vespa became the European standard for scooters to this day.

The Honda Motor Company — In the late 1950′s, Honda introduced the Super Cub to the world. This little scooter went on to become the best selling scooter of all-time.(worldwide) With that Honda reliablity, I wouldn’t be surprised if you could find one of these running today.

On a worldwide scale, Honda has probably been the most diverse and they have certainly had more models than any other company that makes them.

Fuel injection and the introduction of the 4 stroke engine have made these scooters one of the best buys in terms of cost of purchase and cost of fueling it.
